Allotted Portion Addendum

The Allotted Portion for Composition is determined by the percentage of total Hits Composition receives during the annual period defined by SLM’s annual subscription agreement with its subscribers. Hits are defined as the total number of downloads Composition receives via the SLM distribution website: www.slmusic.org (the download hits are weighted based on the categorical type of music Composition is: Mass Setting, Hymn, Psalm):

Hit Calculation
(*D = # of downloads)

     Mass Setting
     Hymn / Song / Other
     Psalm / Antiphon

D x 8.5
D x 1.3-2.5
D x .5-1.3

1 Mass Setting download = 8.5 hits
1 Hymn/Song/Other
download = 1.3-2.5 hits
1
Psalm/Antiphon download = .5-1.3 hits

Since Composer receives an Allotted Portion of 40% of any and all net sums received from SLM user subscriptions, Composer Net Income (NI) is Composition total hits (above calculation) divided by the total hits of all SLM compositions multiplied by 40% of SLM’s net sum:

Income Calculation
NI = 40% SLM Net Sum x (Composition Total Hits / SLM Total Hits)

Ultimately, the Income Calculation has the effect of allotting the Composer around the same amount of royalties per download as he/she would receive through a normal A-La-Carte (individual) purchase of their product:
  • A-La-Carte: $30.00 product x 40% = $12.00 in royalties
  • Income Calculation: Same product x 2.5 hits / SLM Total Hits = $11.00-$13.00 depending on SLM Subscription sales.
